ACORN and Voter Registration Fraud

ACORN’s Voter registration efforts have been at the center of fraud allegations in as many as 15 states.  Democrats have tried to deflect these allegations. Matt Griffin, Nevada’s deputy secretary of state for elections, said, “An ongoing probe in Nevada into the group responsible for collecting the registrations, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, has not led investigators to believe anyone will try to vote illegally on Nov. 4.  We’re talking registration fraud; it’s not voter fraud,” Griffin went on to say. “But we have a duty to follow up.” ACORN offices in Nevada have been raided by the FBI.

Accusations against ACORN, and its relationship with Barack #Obama, took a new turn yesterday as Ohio State Secretary, Jennifer Brunner was served a temporary restraining order to immediately stop early #voting registrations. It is being claimed that Jennifer Brunner is blocking attempts to properly verify early voting registrations. After growing evidence of serious and rampant voter registration fraud by organizations such as ACORN in the State of Ohio, a Federal Judge issued the TRO.

Jeanne MacIntosh, of the NY Post reports,

A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws.

“Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they’ll give me a dollar to sign up,” said Freddie Johnson, 19, who filled out 72 separate voter-registration cards over an 18-month period at the behest of the left-leaning Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

“The ACORN people are everywhere, looking to sign people up. I tell them I am already registered. The girl said, ‘You are?’ I say, ‘Yup,’ and then they say, ‘Can you just sign up again?’ ” he said.

Johnson used the same information on all of his registration cards, and officials say they usually catch and toss out duplicate registrations. But the practice sparks fear that some multiple registrants could provide different information and vote more than once by absentee ballot.

What is Barack Obama’s relationship to ACORN? He has endorsed ACORN and accepted their endorsements. Here is an outline of ACORN’s tactics

  1. Get money from the Federal government money
  2. Use it to rally support for a political entitlement movement, playing the poor against the rich, the minorities against the whites, socialism against democracy.
  3. Use their clout to strong-arm banks into offering mortgage loans to those with bad credit
  4. Get some cronies in Washington to pass a bill to force a government-designed, government-regulated entity to guarantee those mortgages (Fannie Mae).
  5. Make large contributions to the campaigns of those politicians supporting the organization’s goals (and/or former staff).
  6. Enlist anyone interested, including convicted felons currently in prison, to run a voter registration drive, and give them instructions, but claim ignorance or lack of oversight when discovered that fraud is taking place

These are the strategies Obama learned from ACORN and they are the strategies he is using in his campaign for President.

Peace in the Meltdown

My friend David has a wonderful post this morning. He points out the fundamental need to trust Christ during the storms of life. It is significant to me that for many, the primary storm they recognize is financial.

Mark 4:35-41: “On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Therein lies the question for us to ponder: “Why are you so afraid?  Have you still no faith?”

I awoke this morning at 4:00.  I have to be honest with you, I am wondering where the bottom of this financial mess is.  Certainly no one saw this storm coming. I knew a storm was coming, but not this storm.

It seems to me that this is the perfect picture and verse for us to consider at these times.

Being Republican is Racist

Give me a break.

The Democratic Underground says wearing white is racist. Harry Reid says pointing out that Franklin Raines is an Obama insider is racist. Congressman Greg Meeks says that drawing attention to the fact that Barack Obama is a Socialist is racist. Questioning the role of Bill Ayers in Obama’s political career is racist. Identifying a conflict of interest for the VP debate moderator is racist. Believing that people without the ability to pay for mortgage should not have one is apparently racist.

The race card is played so frequently, that last summer rappers who wore t-shirts emblazened with “Nigger,” have called Fox News racist. For crying out loud, Barney Frank says it is racist to criticize how Congress is handling the economic crisis.

Someone need to tell the MSM and the Obama campaign the story of the boy that cried ‘Wolf’ one time too often.

Shhhhh. The next sound you hear will be someone saying that it is racist to be a Republican.

AIG Needs $38 Billion More

We just loaned them $85 Billion. But that wasn’t enough.

Everyone. Together now. “I told you so!”

The Federal Reserve announced Wednesday it was lending billions of additional funds to cash-strapped American International Group Inc.

Under the program, the New York Federal Reserve Bank will provide $37.8 billion in additional cash to certain domestic life insurance subsidiaries of AIG  in return for investment-grade, fixed-income securities.

AIG already has an $85 billion line of credit with the Fed. As of last week, AIG had used $60 billion of this loan, according to Fed data.

This new program will allow AIG to replenish liquidity, the Fed said. At the same time, the securities will provide enhanced protection to U.S. taxpayers, the central bank said.

These big wigs spent over $440,000 on a party when they got the first loan. No telling how much they will spend now.

Obama Makes False Claim to Cut Spending

Only in the weird world of Quantum Mechanics can math like this be explained. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, an independent, group analyzed Obama’s tax and spending plans.

They result in a net increase of spending of $281 billion.

The claim that, “Actually I’m cutting more than I’m spending so that it will be a net spending cut” is totally false.

How did the morning shows in the MSM confront this? They ignored it.

NewsBusters highlights this problem while AP takes issue with both candidates on factual errors.

Palin E-mail Hacker Indicted

David Kernell has been indicted for breaking in to #Sarah Palin‘s private email account. I admit a wee bit of surprise but am glad they caught him.  Kernell is being charged with “gaining unlawful access to stored communications and obtaining information from a protected computer via interstate communication.”

If convicted, could he do some real time? You betcha’. Breaking in to someone’s email isn’t just mischievous. He could be sent to prison for five years, fined $250,000, and then face three years of supervised release.

“Cyber crime is the FBI’s top criminal investigative priority,” said FBI Agent Richard Lambert. “We would like to thank all of the Internet service providers and others who partnered with us to bring this matter to a quick and successful resolution.”

However, one wonders if this will just fade away. Especially if Obama is elected.

Fireproof – the Movie

I always like to comment on things happening in American culture and evaluate them from a Christian worldview. While politics has dominated my recent posts, I am not in any danger of becoming a ‘political’ blog. Fireproof was released in theaters recently and is a movie you will want to see. It deals with the type of marital conflicts that I have talked with couples about for years; stress, conflict, values, intimacy, work, etc. Joyfully, it diverges from the typical film describing a marriage with problems and shows how one couple overcomes their difficulties by applying Christian values.

Focus on the Family said:

As the couple prepares to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb’s father challenges his son to make a 40-day commitment called, "The Love Dare." Caleb becomes frustrated throughout the process and finally asks his father, "How am I supposed to show love to somebody who constantly rejects me?" When his father explains that this is the love Christ shows to us, Caleb makes a life-changing commitment to God. He then faces his toughest job ever: rescuing his wife’s heart.

The NY Times says, It’s a Healthy Marriage of Faith and Filmmaking

An almost all-volunteer cast and crew, including a star who was an ’80s teen heartthrob, and a plot about a firefighter who saves his marriage by turning to God — it hardly sounds like a recipe for box office success, let alone a best-selling book. But that’s what the film “Fireproof” has spawned. The movie features Kirk Cameron, an alumnus of the television show “Growing Pains,” as the firefighter, and it cost just $500,000 to produce. Yet it opened two weekends ago with $6.5 million in ticket sales, good for No. 4 at the box office, just a few spots behind the No. 1 big-budget action thriller "Eagle Eye" and five spots ahead of Spike Lee’s World War II epic, “Miracle at St. Anna.” This past weekend “Fireproof” made $4.1 million more and so far has about $12.5 million total, according to estimates by Media by Numbers, a box office tracking company.

Democrats Won't Hold Hearings On Fannie – Yet

It looks like Waxman and the Democrats are trying to downplay their role in the subprime debacle. It is time for all the cards to be placed on the table and let the chips fall where they may. Democrats, Republicans, insiders, outsiders. Whatever!

Whoever is as fault for this should be prosecuted and publically, and pilitcally, humiliated. This is the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression and our politicians are doing what they do best. Play politics.

“Any hearing on oversight that does not begin with Fannie and Freddie and [former Fannie Mae CEO] Franklin Raines will be a sham,” said Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.). “This is like investigating a train robbery and only talking to the dining car stewards.”

The GOP attack from the dais came as the National Republican Campaign Committee and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) sent nearly simultaneous news releases criticizing Fannie and Freddie.

Boehner’s statement echoed Mica’s, saying, “Chairman Waxman’s refusal to hold hearings to examine their role says a lot about where the Democrats’ priorities lie.”
