CNN Says Obama Is Lying About Ayers

Give a hat tip to CNN and Anderson Cooper for reporting on the link between Barack Obama and unrpentant domestic terrorist William Ayers.

If you read this blog with any regularity, you know how abhorent double-standards are to me. I regularly criticize the media, and anyone else, for praising one person and condemning another person for exactly the same action.

On that rare occasion when a regular transgressor gets things right, I am glad to call attention to their good deed.

Barack Obama has been lying about his relationship with William Ayers. Obama claims to have barely known Ayers even though Obama served on two non-profit boards with Ayers, put on a major fundraiser with him, and arranged grants to schools at Ayers direction.  Anderson Cooper calls this “dishonest” in his report.

Hot Air has a wonderful take on Barney Frank. He is such an endless supply of inane stupidity.

Barney Frank’s latest defense of Congress over the financial meltdown could be predicted based on the success of Barack Obama’s campaign in using the same defense.  According to Rep. Frank, any attempt to pin the blame for the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac on the activities of both, as well as Congressional policy that fueled it, is now officially racist.  Frank says conservatives want to blame minorities for the collapse:

Frank charged that conservatives aim to shift blame for the market meltdown away from Wall Street and toward minority-lending laws like the federal Community Reinvestment Act.

“The bizarre notion that the Community Reinvestment Act . . . somehow is the cause of the whole problem, (conservatives) don’t mind that,” the lawmaker said. “They’re aware that the affordable-housing goals of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (and) the Community Reinvestment Act (aim to help) poor people. And let’s be honest, the fact that some poor people are black doesn’t hurt either from their standpoint.”

Let’s keep score.  Criticizing Obama means we’re racists.  Criticizing Congress means we’re racists.  Getting angry at Congress for pushing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into buying bad loans and infecting the entire financial system with essentially fraudulent paper — at a cost of up to $700 billion in taxpayer money and potentially trillions in lost investments — means we’re racists.

The CRA was only a small part of the cause of the collapse.  It affected loans only at the margins.  The Clinton administration opted for more aggressive enforcement, and “community organizers” like ACORN used that to file nuisance complaints that could keep banks from merging and acquiring other banks.  That may have pushed lenders into lowering standards on a handful of loans, but only to enough of an extent to avoid government sanctions.

In that sense, the CRA is a bit of a red herring.  The real cause of the collapse was the Congressional push for Fannie and Freddie to support subprime lending by purchasing the paper from lenders, which is related to the same policies that generated the CRA but isn’t the CRA itself.  Lenders make money one of two ways: keeping the paper themselves and getting the interest over the term of the loan, or selling the paper to someone else for a guaranteed short-term profit.  When Fannie and Freddie began buying all of this paper, they created a huge demand for subprime loans — and lenders responded by offering easy money to almost anyone who applied.  They threw out income requirements and equity thresholds (such as down payments) and generated tremendous short-term profits for themselves … while Fannie and Freddie assumed all the long-term risk.

I have been asking myself, What if Sarah Palin was a Democrat?” How would the media be treating her? Would they like her? Would she be treated like an outcast by the National Organization of Women?

If she were a Democrat, her unusual life would be spun into a compelling narrative that would make her the darling of the coastal elite.

How she’s raising that lovely brood of kids, her care for that severely handicapped baby, her relationship with that rugged hubby who often cares for the kids and is part native, her unlikely rise through the political minefields, her tough knocks and gutsy performance on the national stage – all would be testament to a breakthrough of historic proportions we would be ordered to celebrate in the name of diversity and equality…

These are just two of the questions one asks when learning hermeneutics. This discipline applies to all ancient literature but is under attack by those contemporary philosophers that promote ‘personalizing’ the text. That is, it means whatever it means to you. This is of course the logical extension of post-modernism into the arena of literature.

Biblical interpretation requires higher standards and more rigorous discipline from believers. We are not free to ‘personalize’ a text in this way. Moses, Paul, and Isaiah had something to say and we need to grasp what they meant, not merely what we want.

Look Who’s the Hypocrite NOW

I stumbled across a wonderfu blog that you may enjoy. This article on the National Organization of Women and their endorsement of Barack Obama and virulent criticism of Sarah Palin captures my feelings on the subject.

NOW has evolved into a group that is devoted to liberal causes that affect women rather than all causes that affect women. The “National Organization of Women” should be composed of ALL women regardless of their particular view on a particular issue. Instead, they focus on only a few issues and take a liberal view. Conservatives are clearly not welcome.

NOW says that although Sarah Palin is a woman she does not support women’s rights.  I have a hard time believing that Sarah Palin is not for pay equality and is not against violence towards women.  So in reality, NOW is only concerned about a candidate being pro-abortion.  I say pro-abortion as opposed to pro-choice because if they were really pro-choice then they wouldn’t have a problem with a woman choosing to be pro-life, choosing not to condone sex outside of marriage, and choosing options other than abortion.  These are their big issues with Sarah Palin.  Here we have a successful, articulate, intelligent mother of five as a vice-presidential candidate but NOW won’t get behind her because she is against letting them kill unborn women (and men).

California NOW has contacted us to say that no NOW chapter or affiliate supports McCain/Palin. No surprise there. They go on to say that, “California NOW has also been at the forefront of calling out sexism against Palin, as you can see from the site.” However, the article referred to does not mention any support for Palin.

I have asked for a clarification.

The $700B bailout contains is now over $800B. Why? It contains BILLIONS of dollars in #pork-barrel spending. About $112B to be more exact.

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are out of control on this. This entire problem could have been handled by the FED and market forces. It did not have to be lubricated with 16% pork.

America will become a debtor nation at this rate.

Here are some predictions for you to tuck in your electronic back pocket.

  1. Credit market problems will require more than just an injection of funds to become fully functional again.
  2. The FED will have to change the capital reserve ratios to keep us afloat.
  3. $700B is not enough.
  4. Consumer credit debt is next; or at least soon.
  5. Any rally in the Dow will be short-lived.
  6. Fannie problems have not finished their impact on overseas markets.
