Obama Lies About Born-Alive Bill And Abortion

One of the big lies during the third debate came on the topic of #abortion.  McCain said that Obama’s position on the issue is radical, including his repeated opposition to the Illinois version of the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act.  Obama responded this way:

There was a bill that was put forward before the Illinois Senate that said you have to provide lifesaving treatment and that would have helped to undermine Roe v. Wade. The fact is that there was already a law on the books in Illinois that required providing lifesaving treatment, which is why not only myself but pro-choice Republicans and Democrats voted against it.

What Obama claims is factually untrue, however. The Attorney General reported that the practice of abandoning infants born alive during late-term abortions was not covered by the law.  Jill Stanek and others suggested that as many as 20% of all late-term abortions resulted in a live birth.  Further, Obama lied about why the bill was being proposed. Existing law was ineffective at protecting infants born alive.

And the Illinois Medical Society, the organization of doctors in Illinois, voted against it. Their Hippocratic Oath would have required them to provide care, and there was already a law in the books.

Except, there wasn’t a law on the books. No one should be surprised that the people performing the abortions and leaving the children to die would object to more oversight to prevent that practice.

Face it. Obama is not telling the truth about his oppostition to this law.

Obama Campaign Tries to Cover Up ACORN Relationship

The Cleveland Leader is reporting that Barack #Obama is trying to cover-up his relationship with ACORN. Early Thursday morning they said:

Attempts to hide evidence of Obama’s involvement with ACORN have included wiping the web clean of potentially damaging articles that had appeared, and were previously publicly accessible. Unfortunately, those behind the attempted cover-up failed to realize that in today’s day and age, nothing disappears forever. There also exists another layer of the web, the hidden web, which is full of information included in proprietary scholarly databases where these very same “missing” articles can be easily uncovered.

Obama’s campaign website states:

Fact: Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.

Is that really a FACT, or just another lie? Let’s take a look at a quote from a 2004 article – Case Study: Chicago- The Barack Obama Campaign – written by Toni Foulkes, a Chicago ACORN Leader, which was published in the journal Social Policy. Did we mention that Social Policy recently pulled this particular article from their website, while leaving links to all other articles up?

“Obama took the case, known as ACORN vs. Edgar (the name of the Republican governor at the time) and we won. Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5,000 of them).

Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for State Senate and then his failed bid for U.S. Congress in 1996. By the time he ran for U.S. Senate, we were old friends.“

Early on Friday, the Leader had more breaking news.

Today, the cover-ups continue and language on Obama’s fightthesmears.com website has been altered in order to make it look like he has been telling the #truth about his ACORN associations all along.

Fortunately, we and many others online know how to do a screen capture and how to use a little something called Google Cache.

As of yesterday, Fightthesmears.com stated:

Fact: Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.

Sometime on Friday, the website was altered, and the text was changed to state:

Fact: ACORN never hired Obama as a trainer, organizer, or any type of employee.

The mere fact that his campaign has now changed the language of the site shows that they have conceded the fact that their original remark was a bold-face lie. As a lawyer Sen. Obama should know the importance of language.

The original statement implied that he had no working connection with ACORN, whereas the new statement now insists that he has never been employed or hired by ACORN.

It is good to see the truth finally come out now, but why were they trying to hide his association with ACORN, and what else is Obama lying to us about? Perhaps the biggest question now is how and why they got the Social Policy article stricken from most of the world wide web in the first.place. What are they trying to hide?

Obama Ad Lies About Family Income

In a recent television ad, Barack Obama claims that family incomes are falling:

“For eight years, you’ve been told that the way to a stronger #economy was to give huge tax breaks to corporations and the wealthiest Americans, and somehow prosperity would trickle down. Well now we know the truth. It didn’t work. Instead of prosperity trickling down, pain has trickled up. Working family incomes have fallen by $2,000 a year.”

According to the Tax Foundation, that is not actually true.  They go on to say it is “not even in the ballpark.”

Faith and FactsReal incomes for working families have not even fallen by $2,000 in the entire eight year period of the past eight years, according to the Census Bureau; and that’s even judging by an income metric (cash money income) that doesn’t include in-kind benefits like the value of employer-provided health insurance. . . .

…median family income in 2007 (most recent year data is available) was at an all-time high, and mean working family income (which can be skewed by very high income earners) has actually only fallen by about $348 in real terms since 2000. The latter implies an average decline of about $50 per year, meaning Obama is overstating the decline by about forty-fold.

I realize that in any campaig, both parties make claims that are disputed by their opponents. One role of the media is to fact-check these claims/accusations and report the truth.

Sadly, the mainstream media is embedded so deeply in Obama’s hip pocket they refuse to analyze an outrageous accusation such as this one.

Don’t expect the MSM to call attention to the fact that this ad by Barack Obama and the Democrats is an outright lie.

Today is Blog Action Day for 2008 and the focus is on poverty. I am a proud supporter of Belen Area Food Pantry.  Belen in located in the hungriest county in New Mexico. New Mexico is the hungriest state in America.

The BAFP helps families in our local community fight #hunger. Families facing a variety of financial and social hardships are able to receive assistance with love and dignity. Last month we served over 300 families, primarily single mothers with two or more children.

Voting For McCain is Racist

The Wall Street Journal has an excellent article that reflects my concerns over the Democrats persistent use of the race card. I am exhausted by the repetitive, unsubstantiated charges of racism against John McCain’s campaign specifically and Republicans in general. Anyone not voting for Obama must be a racist.

Things are supposed to be looking rosy for Democrats this November. But in case Barack Obama loses the Presidency, an excuse is all ready to go: America’s too racist to elect a black man. Not even, in his Vice Presidential pick Joe Biden’s inimitable description, one so “articulate and bright and clean.”

This narrative has gained traction with the Democratic Presidential candidate’s recent setbacks in the polls. We hear it from the convention crowd in Denver and liberals in the press. The older, poorer, white, often Hillary voter who sounds ambivalent about the Obama coronation is an enticing scapegoat.

“Call me crazy, but isn’t it possible, just possible, that Obama’s lead is being inhibited by the fact that he is, you know, black?” wrote John Heilemann in New York magazine earlier this month. “What makes Obama’s task of scoring white votes at Kerry-Gore levels so formidable is, to put it bluntly, racial prejudice.”

In this week’s Newsweek (and on Slate), Jacob Weisberg reasoned that only some “crazy irrationality over race” could prevent Mr. Obama from winning the White House. If he does win, America will have reached post-prejudice Nirvana. “If Obama loses, our children will grow up thinking of equal opportunity as a myth,” Mr. Weisberg continued. “To the rest of the world, a rejection of the promise he represents wouldn’t just be an odd choice by the United States. It would be taken for what it would be: sign and symptom of a nation’s historical decline.” Wow. Vote for Barack, or America is as irredeemable as many foreigners believe.

Reforms by Obama and Ayers a Flop

Obama’s only claim to have executive experience qualifying him for high government office came before being in elected office according to a claim in a 2000 televised debate during a failed campaign to unseat incumbent Democratic Congressman Bobby Rush.  Of that experience, Obama said: “I have chaired major philanthropic efforts on the city, like the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) that gave $50 million to prompt school-reform efforts throughout the city.”

It was an impressive line on anyone’s resume. It was also a flop.

According to an article in IBD,

In 1998-99, just 36% of the Annenberg school students in grades three through eight were reading at or above national norms compared with 35% in Chicago schools citywide. In math, the results were similar. Some 43% of Annenberg students were at or above national norms versus 42% for non-Annenberg students.

High school graduation rates for both groups of students were the same at 40%. The Annenberg schools edged out Chicago schools in dropout rates — 35% to 36%. As the report said, there were no signs of improvement that warranted the expenditure of $160 million.

The CAC did not improve the schools, and in some ways made things worse. The executive summary also notes: “Classroom behavior, students’ sense of self-efficacy, and social competence were weaker in 2001 than before the Challenge.”

The report stated: “In 2001, students in Annenberg schools were somewhat less inclined than in 1994 to respect each other, work well together and help each other learn.” Neither student attitudes nor student achievements were aided by Obama’s efforts.

The comprehensive report on the results of efforts by Obama and Ayers goes on to say

When Obama collected the endorsement of the American Federation of Teachers, he told the teachers that support for alternatives to the #education monopoly amounted to “tired rhetoric about vouchers and school choice” even though efforts like the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship, unlike those of the CAC, have produced stunning improvements.

Not being left behind are Obama’s daughters, who attend the private University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. There the tuition ranges from $15,528 for kindergarten to $20,445 for high school. When asked about it during last year’s YouTube debate, Sen. Obama responded that it was “the best option” for his children.

They had a choice Obama would deny others.

Obama Called Most Extreme Abortion Supporter Ever

Between Two Worlds just introduced me to Robert P. George. He is a credentialed moral philosopher and intellectuals of  immense stature. With a law degree and a theology degree from Harvard, and a doctorate from Oxford, he currently serves as McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University, and as the director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions. He also serves on The President’s Council on Bioethics and previously served on the United States Commission on Civil Rights.

Dr. George is a man who chooses his words very carefully. And that is why his latest essay, Obama’s Abortion Extremism, is so significant. It begins in this way:

Barack Obama is the most extreme pro-abortion candidate ever to seek the office of President of the United States. He is the most extreme pro-abortion member of the United States Senate. Indeed, he is the most extreme pro-abortion legislator ever to serve in either house of the United States Congress.

George then raises the fact that many today are suggesting that one can be pro-life and pro-Obama:

Yet there are Catholics and Evangelicals—even self-identified pro-life Catholics and Evangelicals—who aggressively promote Obama’s candidacy and even declare him the preferred candidate from the pro-life point of view.

What is going on here?

I have examined the arguments advanced by Obama’s self-identified pro-life supporters, and they are spectacularly weak. It is nearly unfathomable to me that those advancing them can honestly believe what they are saying. But before proving my claims about Obama’s abortion extremism, let me explain why I have described Obama as “pro-abortion” rather than “pro-choice.”

George proceeds to work through Obama’s legislative career–which has merited a 100% rating each year from the NARAL Pro-Choice America’s Congressional Record on Choice–to show Obama’s unmitigated commitment to abortion, even when the legislation has nothing to do with the making abortion illegal.

Religulous Is Ridiculous

In his new documentary Religulous, Maher endeavors to explore what he views as the irrationalities of religion and faith with a comedic twist. Maher travels the world, interviewing believers from major faith traditions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Mormonism, stopping everywhere from the Vatican to the Dome of the Rock to a roadside chapel in North Carolina. While attempting to present his views in a humorous way, his main point is simple: religion is inherently irrational and dangerous, and it “must die for mankind to live.”

Jesus…Maher thinks he knows so much more about the target of his opprobrium than he actually does. He makes his first mistake in the first line of the movie by referring to the “Book of Revelations” — it’s not plural — and it just snowballs from there.

Within a few minutes Maher is denying not just the divinity of Jesus Christ but his actual historical existence, a question disputed by almost no credible scholar. You can argue that it is difficult to believe in Jesus’s existence considering that primary records for his existence are recorded by only a precious few devoted disciples who recorded his allegorical teachings in detail as well as the social unrest they inspired. Then again, if that’s the standard – you probably don’t believe Socrates either.

Still, Maher isn’t exactly on solid ground in questioning what he sees as the more fantastical elements of Christianity. Maher asserts that there are a slew of uncanny similarities between Mithraism and the worship of the Egyptian god Horus, on one hand, and Christianity, on the other, and that these beliefs, which predate Christianity, were bastardized to make up the foundations of the new religion. Here too he falls flat on his face; at best there are some commonalities (present among nearly all religions), and most of the specific similarities asserted in the film, e.g., that Jesus, Mithras, and Horus were all the product of virgin births, come from dubious sources.

The example of the virgin birth is particularly telling because Maher makes much hay of the fact that only two of the four Gospels mention the circumstances of Jesus’s birth. That others would omit this important fact is somehow proof that they were making it up. Well, Mithras was born out of rock (and the earliest known account of his origins seems to postdate the writing of the Gospels), and Horus was conceived by his mother Isis with a golden penis which may make her not quite a virgin? For the Gospel writers to ignore the virgin birth is no more strange than for a comedian to ignore the existence of the penis and all of the potential for hilarity it presents. Unfortunately, Maher ignores it because it doesn’t make his case. And again, we’re just getting started dissecting the facts in Maher’s documentary.

ACORN Registers Mickey Mouse

Right Voices has a great article dealing with ongoing fraud allegations against ACORN. But lest you think that only conservative bloggers are accusing ACORN of fraud, CNN did a pices that reviewed 2100 applications. Result?

2100 applications rejected because of fraud!

The Wall Street Journal points out that ACORN was able to increase voter registration in Indianapolis to 105% of eligible voters. The article said,

Acorn — the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now — has been around since 1970 and boasts 350,000 members. We’ve written about them for years, but Acorn is now getting more attention as John McCain’s campaign makes an issue of the fraud reports and Acorn’s ties
to Mr. Obama. It’s about time someone exposed this shady outfit that uses government dollars to lobby for larger government.

CNN Cracks ACORN Again

I have been very critical of the MSM regarding their overt bias and over/under reporting. I am always glad to give a hat-tip to CNN when they do a good job.

…the detail about the 2,100 phony registrations in Indiana is recycled from the segment Ed posted on Friday but the close-up of the registration forms and the extended interview with ACORN’s lawyer are new, proving that not only is CNN sticking with this story but they’re actually building it out. And not just this one. Remember, Drew Griffin’s also responsible for that clear-eyed, bolt-from-the-blue look at Obama’s relationship with Ayers. What on earth’s going on over there? Are they worried that MSNBC will be the Obama administration’s mouthpiece of choice so they’re slapping him around a bit as a warning not to make enemies of them?

Serious exit question: How, precisely, do people think ACORN’s going to influence the election? The worry, as I’ve understood it, is that the race will narrow and we’ll end up a la 2000 in a cliffhanger with one or two counties in some swing state deciding who wins. In that scenario, a few thousand phony votes would be monumental. Judging from some of the e-mail we’re getting, though, true believers think something bigger’s going on, as though an Obama win by a few percentage points — which would mean a margin of a few million votes — would be inherently shady. Explain to me how ACORN’s supposedly planning to convert these bogus registrations into actual bogus votes on a mass scale.
