Pin the Tail on the Donkey

Michael Reagan has a fabulous article on the financial crisis we have been reading about this week. Who is at fault? Who should get the blame?

Pin the tail on the Donkeys.

Bill Clinton and Democrats made the policies. Democrats did the consulting. Democrats accepted the contributions. And now Democrats will get off scott-free. Reagan points out that,

“The scandal of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac dwarfs the Enron debacle. In Enron, people went to jail. With the Fannies, some just walked away with millions.”

Guess what the Democrats are doing now, besides bailing out their friends? Blaming the Republicans of course. Nothing is ever their fault.

Some additional quotes from the article:

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the top three U.S. Senators getting big Fannie and Freddie political bucks were Democrats, and No. 2 was Sen. Barack Obama, who as Fox noted had only been in the Senate four years but still managed to grab that No. 2 spot ahead of longtime colleagues John Kerry and Chris Dodd, the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.

According to Fox, Fannie and Freddie were where big-time Washington Democrats went to work and pocketed millions. Franklin Raines, Clinton’s White House Budget Director, ran Fannie and collected $50 million.

Jamie Gorelick, an official in Clinton’s Justice Department — the woman who built the “wall” that prevented the FBI from targeting terrorists before 9/11 — worked for Fannie Mae and took home $26 million. Big-time Democrat Jim Johnson, who headed Obama’s VP search committee, also hauled in millions from running Fannie Mae.

Obama brazenly blames John McCain and the GOP for the current Wall Street mess when it’s clear none of it was due to Republican policies. The truth of the matter is that it was McCain and three GOP colleagues who sought to reform the government’s lending policies three long years ago after the Bush administration had failed two years earlier. On May 25, 2006, McCain spoke on behalf of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, and warned against the debacle we are now facing if it failed to pass.

Victimology Double Standard

WOW! The media double standard has reached a new high (or is that low?) by blaming Sarah Palin for the breakin to her Yahoo email account.

AP writer, Ted Bridis, says:

If Gov. Palin hadn’t been using a consumer-level Yahoo! account (more than one, actually) this crime wouldn’t have happened….

Wait. That can’t be right. Blame the victim? Hold people accountable for their actions and choices in life? Why Ted, you are starting to sound like a Conservative.

On the other hand, this could this be just one more knee-jerk reaction that results from a fluid definition of truth, integrity and morals? That must be it. Ted would never become a Conservative.

Michelle Malkin has a great article on this topic that includes an email exchange with Ted. AP reporter e-mails: Yeah, it’s all Palin’s fault.

More Liberal Double Standards

When Nancy Pelosi finally gets around to passing legislation to allow for more energy exploration, she says she is “giving incentives” to the energy industry.

When Republicans have done the same thing, Nancy calls it “giving tax breaks to Big Oil.”

Just more liberal double-standards and double-talk.

Sarah Palin Rumors Debunked

This is an astonishing list from the blog Explorations. I could not figure out how to post just a piece, so I pasted the entire thing and am giving the proper link at the bottom. I even included his internal links. WOW!

  1. Yes, she is Governor of Alaska. No, she’s not the Lieutenant Governor. No, she’s not currently Mayor of Wasilla. Yes, she was Mayor of Wasilla, some years ago.
  2. Yes, as Governor of Alaska, she’s the Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard. And yes, her professional military subordinate is quite impressed with her in that role.
  3. And yes, the New York Times says the job of Governor of Alaska is one of the harder, and more powerful, jobs in state government.
  4. Yes, there are people in Alaska who think she’s too liberal.
  5. Yes, she did giggle when someone called Lyda Green a “bitch.” Yes, Lyda Green is a cancer survivor. Yes, it was the same Lyda Green who tried to force a scheduling conflict that would make Palin miss her son’s high school graduation. Yes, this would also be the Lyda Green who complained no one had asked her about Palin during the vetting process.
  6. Yes, she did push for and approve the Wasilla Sports Center. Yes, it did cost a lot of money. (People keep saying $20 million, that article says $14.5 million, but then they also added a $1.2 million dollar food service/kitchen piece. This year, after Palin was out of office as Mayor.) Yes, the city went into debt to do it (how did you buy your house, bunkie?) and raised the city sales tax from 2 percent to 2.5 percent to pay for it. Yes, the city is paying it off early. Yes, there is an ongoing dispute about title (following a struggle with the Nature Conservancy and another buyer. And yes, at the time it was built, Wasilla had a Federal judge’s decision that they had title to the land. Here’s a place to think a little, folks: if Wasilla got a $15 million sports center, and got a mortgage for it, then the city incurred more longterm debt, you bet. It also got a capital asset. You do it with a mortgage; a city does it by setting up bonds and a tax base to service the bonds. Same thing. Whether it was wise or not is another question, but the bonds and tax increase were approved by a special election by the people in Wasilla. Read more

Obama Attacks McCain Over … Email

I am a tremendous of fan of highly crafted wit and sacrcasm. Jonah Goldberg’s article analyzing Obama’s recent attacks against McCain for not being able to use email are razor sharp.

Oh one last point for now: Lord knows I think the chicken-hawk arguments are stupid. And I don’t think the fact that Obama never served in the military should count against him in and of itself. But how stupid is it for the Obama campaign to claim that McCain is unqualified to be president because he can’t grasp cyber-security issues based on the fact he has never sent an email when the McCain campaign can just as easily say Obama can’t understand first order national security issues because he’s never fired a rife, flown a plane, commanded men in battle, or faced an enemy? I mean which prepares someone to be commander in chief better, hitting “send” on AOL or fighting a war?

Palin Energizing Women

While some have called Sarah Palin a rock star, others are just glad to have someone in politics that faces the same problems they do.

Susie Baron is a Republican, a mother of two and a home-schooler. She voted for Mike Huckabee in the Ohio primary, but now — because of Sarah Palin — she thinks she is part of something much bigger.

“I wouldn’t even call it a Palin movement, I’d call it a sleeping giant that has been awakened,” Baron, 56, said at a rally here Tuesday. She described its members as a silent majority of women in Middle America who “are raising our families, who work if we have to, but love our country and our families first.”

“And until now, we haven’t had anyone to identify with,” Baron said, adding that traditional feminist groups such as the National Organization for Women do “not represent me.”

Since her rapid transition from obscure Alaska governor to GOP vice presidential nominee, Palin has reenergized the presidential race and also further polarized it, setting her instant fan base, which sees her as a pit bull with lipstick, against those who dismiss her as just another Republican who happens to be a woman and seems intent on rekindling a culture war.

A Liberal Loves Sarah Palin

I loved this article. Finally, a woman that can disagree with Sarah Palin and still admire her accomplishments

We hugged each other joyfully. Politics be damned, Palin was a woman and she was an Alaskan! Moreover, I had been impressed with her when I interviewed her – not for her politics (I’m one of those east coast liberals she doesn’t care about) but for the other things that people across the country are responding to right now:her warmth, her work ethic, her “can-do” attitude.

If life is simply a reprise of high school, Palin was the jock who attended church faithfully, ran the soup kitchen, and organised the bake sale. If her paper on the Lincoln-Douglas debate wasn’t the most nuanced, so be it. Something has to give.

In my article, I wrote about how hard it is for Palin not to smile. The American media has been dismissive of that beauty-queen smile, but Palin really did enter the Miss Wasilla contest for the scholarship money. (To make extra money, her retired parents currently shoo the birds off the runway at the Anchorage airport so the birds’ bodies don’t muck up the engines’ turbine.) Even then, Palin didn’t like the pageant and was appalled when they asked her to turn around and show the judges her behind.

‘I am a liberal, but I’m blown away by Sarah Palin’.

ABC Misquotes Palin on Prayer

Vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is interviewed by ABC News' Charlie Gibson.Once again the elite media is looking down its hooked nose at simple Sarah. They just cannot seem to resist the inner urge to think that those outside their own little circle are stupid bumpkins. Not content with simple condescencion, Charles Gibson had to distort Sarah Palin ‘s statements about prayer, God’s will and war.

As one writer describes it, Gibson Throws a Spitball:

GIBSON: You said recently, in your old church, “Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.” Are we fighting a holy war?

PALIN: You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote.

GIBSON: Exact words.

PALIN: But the reference there is a repeat of Abraham Lincoln’s words when he said — first, he suggested never presume to know what God’s will is, and I would never presume to know God’s will or to speak God’s words.

But what Abraham Lincoln had said, and that’s a repeat in my comments, was let us not pray that God is on our side in a war or any other time, but let us pray that we are on God’s side.

That’s what that comment was all about, Charlie.

GIBSON: I take your point about Lincoln’s words, but you went on and said, “There is a plan and it is God’s plan.”

Sarah’s original statement:

“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God,” she exhorted the congregants. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”

The best part was when she gave Charlie a history lesson on Abraham Lincoln.

Why is Obama Running Against Palin?

[Obama Can't Win Against Palin]

This article in the Wall Street Journal is a must read. Sarah Palin’s explosion on the national political landscape has obviously rattled the Democratic Messiah. While sarcasm is understandable, even appreciated, it has turned to sawdust in Obama’s mouth. He is digging himself and his candidacy a deeper and deeper hole from which he is unlikely to crawl out.

Of all the advantages Gov. Sarah Palin has brought to the GOP ticket, the most important may be that she has gotten into Barack Obama’s head. How else to explain Sen. Obama’s decision to go one-on-one against “Sarah Barracuda,” captain of the Wasilla High state basketball champs?

It’s a matchup he’ll lose. If Mr. Obama wants to win, he needs to remember he’s running against John McCain for president, not Mrs. Palin for vice president.

Michael Dukakis spent the last months of the 1988 campaign calling his opponent’s running mate, Dan Quayle, a risky choice and even ran a TV ad blasting Mr. Quayle. The Bush/Quayle ticket carried 40 states.

Winning Against Terrorists

George Bush

Ann Coulter wrote another of her blistering but humorous essays tweaking the noses of the Liberal Left. There wasn’t a major al-Qaida attack in 2003. Nor in 2004, 2005, 2006 or 2007. Liberals were flummoxed because they had set a standard of success that they expected Bush to fail. Grrrrr. The guns are winning. Bad guns. Very bad guns!

President Bush has correctly said, we have to be right 100 percent of the time.  However, the terrorists only have to be right one time. It is hard to believe, even for conservatives, that Bush has a perfect score for seven years. We have been so successful in fact that people have all but forgotten that the threat is real and dangerous. So they make jokes about the President and complain that we are fighting overseas.

Morose that there hasn’t been another terrorist attack on American soil for seven long years, liberals were ecstatic when Hurricane Gustav was headed toward New Orleans during the Republican National Convention last week. The networks gave the hurricane plenty of breaking-news coverage — but unfortunately it was Hurricane Katrina from 2005 they were covering.

On Keith Olbermann’s Aug. 29 show on MSNBC, Michael Moore said the possibility of a Category 3 hurricane hitting the United States “is proof that there is a God in heaven.” Olbermann responded: “A supremely good point.”

Actually, Olbermann said that a few minutes later to some other idiotic point Moore had made, but that’s how Moore would have edited the interview for one of his “documentaries,” so I will, too. I would only add that Michael Moore’s morbid obesity is proof that there is a Buddha.

I suggest you read the entire article. Especially the last two paragraphs. Bush 7, Terrorists 0.
