Remembering 9/11

Today we pause to remember the tragic and senseless deaths of 2,996 souls, murdered in a blatant act of terrorism. Families, along with scores of others, gathered at the World Trade Center Memorial site, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania to pay their respects.

It is a day worthy of our remembrance.

Remembering 2,996 Victims

Just before visiting the crash site of United Airlines Flight 93, the family of Patricia Cushing, 69, and her sister-in-law Jane Folger, 73, decided at last to hold a memorial service. They are still unsure when, if ever, they will receive their relatives’ remains.

“Some don’t want anything to turn up. Others don’t want to leave anything `out there,'” said Patricia Cushing’s son David. “We knew pretty much that if there were going to be any remains, it wasn’t going to be for a while.”

So on Sept. 18, a week after Flight 93 was hijacked and crashed into a Pennsylvania field, the Cushing and Folger families held a memorial mass at St. Henry’s Church in the women’s hometown of Bayonne, N.J. Hundreds attended, many from their large family, many others from Bayonne, a small town across the river from Staten Island, and still more who were simply well-wishing strangers.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by everybody reaching out,” David Cushing said. “Of course there are the agencies that normally reach out to you. But also there’s the people I work with, and a company I used to work for. People you don’t interact with day in and day out.”

His mother, he said, would have hated it. Likely, he added, his Aunt Jane would have enjoyed it a little.

Though the two women seemed to share a personality, Folger was the more outgoing of the pair; Patricia Cushing was most comfortable behind the scenes.

Both enjoyed history, and they often spent free hours together taking guided walking tours of Manhattan. Patricia Cushing was also a season ticket-holder to the Metropolitan Opera and recently had become an inveterate traveler since retiring from the phone company. She had five children.

Jane Folger had endured the emotional turmoil surrounding the death of two of her six children. Both women were religious, and their lives were centered on their large families. They were fast friends and, said David Cushing, complemented each other perfectly.

They were flying to San Francisco, a place where Patricia Cushing had never been. They had several walking trips planned, he said.

A Tribute to the Victims of 9/11

2,996 Victims of Terrorism on 9/11

Special thanks to D. Challenger Roe for organizing a tribute to all 2,996 victims of 9/11. Today’s page will honor these innocent victims of terrorism.

Now Clinton Wants the Truth

This is why people are fed up with politicians of both parties. After lying under oath, Clinton now plays the ‘truth’ card.

“Bill Clinton: “I think they ought to tell the truth…I just want people to tell the truth.” Since when, exactly? Was that part of the plea agreement that brought about the former president’s five year suspension of his law license for knowingly making false statements under oath? ….”

The New Censors

Michael Moore has a TemperatureI just read the letter from House Democrats to Robert Iger, CEO of Disney, demanding that ABC edit/censor “Path to 9/11.” Representatives Conyers, Dingell, Harman and Slaughter acknowledge that while they have not actually seen the mini-series but they are concerned it might have some innaccuracies in it.

I will be writing to thank them for their unflinching commitment to truth. Further, I will be requesting a copy of their letter to Michael Moore as he was getting ready to release “Fahrenheit 911.

Hell Is Freezing Over.

Hell Freezing OverABC is now the PR arm of the ‘Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy.’ Surely hell has frozen over. According to Blog for America, ABC, arguably the most liberal news and television network, is committed to teaching right-wing propaganda with its new mini-series, “Path to 9/11.”

Are we talking about the same ABC that fawned over Michael Moore and his biased ball of lies? The same ABC whose news anchor, Peter Jennings, stated on-air that he hoped fans booed President Bush in the World Series just after the 9/11 attacks?

Bill Clinton and his administration have much to answer for on the path to 9/11. Whether ABC gets is right or not will take years to know the complete truth. It is not likely, however, that ABC has become a shill for Karl Rove.

Who's Rewriting History?

Members of Clinton administration are putting enormous pressure on ABC to rewrite or kill their mini-series, “Path to 9/11.” Previewers have called the series a “docudrama” on the one hand and a “deeply serious” portrayal of events leading up to 9/11.

Which is it? Tune in next week. You can be somewhat assured that someone is rewriting history.

Honoring the victims of 9/11

Remembering 9/11
I have been asked to participate in our local observance of 9/11 and will do so happily. In researching what I could do to honor our fallen heroes I discovered a fabulous project to recognize every victim of this horrific act of cowardly terroism. The website is 2996 – A tribute to the victims of 9/11

It is my privilege to join in this worthwhile effort. Blessings to those that have worked so hard to create and sustain the project.

Blessings to our Military

Twin towers explodeAfter seeing "World Trade Center" this weekend, I resolved to post thanks and encouragement to the blog or website of every member of the American military I stumbled across. Regardless of their politics, gender, ethnicity or social standing, these men and women are heroes. I am happy to thank Michael Gallaugher living in Worcester County, Massachusetts first. His website has been added to the blogroll. Blessings!
