Gender Roles and Propaganda.
Boomer has touched on a topic that is important to me. I understand that the media wants to be reflective of cultural issues to maintain relevance. However, film and television too often stop being a mirror and start trying to drive and shape cultural attitudes. I work with teens on a daily basis and this charge to manipulate gender identities is hurtful. Read this article and leave a comment.
Fox TV’s “House”, Bisexuals, and Propaganda
This is Olivia Wilde who appears on Fox Television’s hit series “House”. For some strange reason, I enjoy watching this show about an angry man with a god complex. Go figure.
Anyway, I was relaxing with a nice pipping hot Latte’, not too long ago, and up pops the little tidbit that Olivia Wilde’s character, Dr. Remy Hadley, otherwise known as “thirteen”, is a bisexual.
Do I need to know this about her character, or are they simply playing into “every man’s” fantasies? Is it just me or does it seem that nearly every show seems to have a need to present at least one character from the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Trans-gendered community? Is this propaganda?
