For less than $10.00, you can feed a family of four for about a week.
Your read that correctly. For less than the cost of your lunch today, Belen Area Food Pantry can feed a family of four for about a week.
Today is Blog Action Day for 2008 and the focus is on poverty. I am a proud supporter of Belen Area Food Pantry. Belen in located in the hungriest county in New Mexico. New Mexico is the hungriest state in America.
The BAFP helps families in our local community fight #hunger. Families facing a variety of financial and social hardships are able to receive assistance with love and dignity. Last month we served over 300 families, primarily single mothers with two or more children.
The Problem Is Serious
- 1 in 6 families in New Mexico suffer from hunger.
- 8.6% of Americans live below the poverty level.
- Almost 26 million children in America rely on assistance from soup kitchens, food pantries and emergency shelters.
- 29% percent of children under age 12 in the United States live in families that must cope with hunger or the risk of hunger.
