Government Takes Over Of Our Health Insurance

Free healthcare ObamacareLast weeks power-grab by President Obama and the Democrats is unprecedented. Even the European Union is taking notice calling it “one of the most astounding power grabs in modern history.” EUTimes.net also describes Obama as the most secretive in history. I hardly a year, Obama has led the American government in socialist style takeovers of the auto industry, banking, and mortgages.

I do not doubt that our healthcare system needs regulation and it needs realignment; perhaps massively so. When people use the emergency room as their primary source of medical care things are seriously out of whack.

A recent exchange on Facebook highlighted for me the desperation some people feel from their lack of medical insurance. A friend was giddy about the prospect of insurance and was offended by any criticism of “Obamacare.”

Here are two details for others that feel the same way.

• When you get something for “free,” someone else, like me, has to pay for it. This includes Obamacare.
• We cannot afford this. The Budget Office says it will only cost $960 Billion dollars over 10 years. That is net of the increased taxes, etc. BTW, this same office has missed every projection of this kind for 50 years. Sometimes by 10,000%.

In case you have not read the entire 1000+ pages of the bill, here is an analysis that has been floating around the Internet.

Freedom From Government

Quotes from Thomas Jefferson –

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

Voting For McCain is Racist

The Wall Street Journal has an excellent article that reflects my concerns over the Democrats persistent use of the race card. I am exhausted by the repetitive, unsubstantiated charges of racism against John McCain’s campaign specifically and Republicans in general. Anyone not voting for Obama must be a racist.

Things are supposed to be looking rosy for Democrats this November. But in case Barack Obama loses the Presidency, an excuse is all ready to go: America’s too racist to elect a black man. Not even, in his Vice Presidential pick Joe Biden’s inimitable description, one so “articulate and bright and clean.”

This narrative has gained traction with the Democratic Presidential candidate’s recent setbacks in the polls. We hear it from the convention crowd in Denver and liberals in the press. The older, poorer, white, often Hillary voter who sounds ambivalent about the Obama coronation is an enticing scapegoat.

“Call me crazy, but isn’t it possible, just possible, that Obama’s lead is being inhibited by the fact that he is, you know, black?” wrote John Heilemann in New York magazine earlier this month. “What makes Obama’s task of scoring white votes at Kerry-Gore levels so formidable is, to put it bluntly, racial prejudice.”

In this week’s Newsweek (and on Slate), Jacob Weisberg reasoned that only some “crazy irrationality over race” could prevent Mr. Obama from winning the White House. If he does win, America will have reached post-prejudice Nirvana. “If Obama loses, our children will grow up thinking of equal opportunity as a myth,” Mr. Weisberg continued. “To the rest of the world, a rejection of the promise he represents wouldn’t just be an odd choice by the United States. It would be taken for what it would be: sign and symptom of a nation’s historical decline.” Wow. Vote for Barack, or America is as irredeemable as many foreigners believe.

Online Voter Registration

I am praying that over 150,000,000 people will register and vote in this election season. The opportunity to vote is both a right and a privilege. With the advent of the Internet, online voter registration is easier than ever. While concerns over voter fraud have attorneys piling up the fees, it should not keep anyone away from the polls. You should register online and vote.

Several sites are listed below that show how to register online to vote. Voter registration websites can be just as partisan as our political parties. I have tried to be fair and balanced by including Republicans, Democrats and Others.

Remember to register online for early or absentee voting.

ACORN and Voter Registration Fraud

ACORN’s Voter registration efforts have been at the center of fraud allegations in as many as 15 states.  Democrats have tried to deflect these allegations. Matt Griffin, Nevada’s deputy secretary of state for elections, said, “An ongoing probe in Nevada into the group responsible for collecting the registrations, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, has not led investigators to believe anyone will try to vote illegally on Nov. 4.  We’re talking registration fraud; it’s not voter fraud,” Griffin went on to say. “But we have a duty to follow up.” ACORN offices in Nevada have been raided by the FBI.

Accusations against ACORN, and its relationship with Barack Obama, took a new turn yesterday as Ohio State Secretary, Jennifer Brunner was served a temporary restraining order to immediately stop early voting registrations. It is being claimed that Jennifer Brunner is blocking attempts to properly verify early voting registrations. After growing evidence of serious and rampant voter registration fraud by organizations such as ACORN in the State of Ohio, a Federal Judge issued the TRO.

Jeanne MacIntosh, of the NY Post reports,

A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws.

“Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they’ll give me a dollar to sign up,” said Freddie Johnson, 19, who filled out 72 separate voter-registration cards over an 18-month period at the behest of the left-leaning Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

“The ACORN people are everywhere, looking to sign people up. I tell them I am already registered. The girl said, ‘You are?’ I say, ‘Yup,’ and then they say, ‘Can you just sign up again?’ ” he said.

Johnson used the same information on all of his registration cards, and officials say they usually catch and toss out duplicate registrations. But the practice sparks fear that some multiple registrants could provide different information and vote more than once by absentee ballot.

What is Barack Obama’s relationship to ACORN? He has endorsed ACORN and accepted their endorsements. Here is an outline of ACORN’s tactics

  1. Get money from the Federal government money
  2. Use it to rally support for a political entitlement movement, playing the poor against the rich, the minorities against the whites, socialism against democracy.
  3. Use their clout to strong-arm banks into offering mortgage loans to those with bad credit
  4. Get some cronies in Washington to pass a bill to force a government-designed, government-regulated entity to guarantee those mortgages (Fannie Mae).
  5. Make large contributions to the campaigns of those politicians supporting the organization’s goals (and/or former staff).
  6. Enlist anyone interested, including convicted felons currently in prison, to run a voter registration drive, and give them instructions, but claim ignorance or lack of oversight when discovered that fraud is taking place

These are the strategies Obama learned from ACORN and they are the strategies he is using in his campaign for President.

Obama Makes False Claim to Cut Spending

Only in the weird world of Quantum Mechanics can math like this be explained. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, an independent, group analyzed Obama’s tax and spending plans.

They result in a net increase of spending of $281 billion.

The claim that, “Actually I’m cutting more than I’m spending so that it will be a net spending cut” is totally false.

How did the morning shows in the MSM confront this? They ignored it.

NewsBusters highlights this problem while AP takes issue with both candidates on factual errors.

Gwen Ifill Seemed Fair

I posted a lengthy article about the appropriateness of Gwen Ifill serving as moderator for the VP debate. She has a real, not just apparent, conflict of interest with her new book lauding the “Age of Obama.” Liberals would never accept this conflict if the situation was reversed. Say if Rush Limbaugh were hosting a debate.

I have come to accept the Liberal bias of the MSM and recognize that we must live with it. The ongoing double standard still did not set well with me.

That said, Gwen seemed to be fair and balanced in her demeanor and questions.

So, maybe we should give Sean Hannity a shot at moderator. Bill O’Reilly? Dick Morris maybe? Anybody agree? Not even Brit Hume?

The Blame Game

The Democrats have been denying that they are the primary cause of the Fannie and Freddie fiascos. Even Bill Clinton admits that there needed to be greater regulatory controls and key Dems consistently fought against them. Listen to Cal Thomas:

When Speaker Nancy Pelosi took to the floor of the House on Monday to blame Republicans for the financial turmoil and charge them with a laissez-fare attitude toward regulation, it seemed like a calculated effort to shift attention and accountability from what Democrats have done to create the current conditions. Fortunately, we have YouTube.

At a 2004 hearing of the Government Sponsored Enterprises Subcommittee, then-Chairman Rep. Richard Baker (R-La.) predicted the collapse of Fannie Mae if nothing was done. Baker called for more regulation, something Democrats claim Republicans never wanted. In an editorial Tuesday, The New York Times got it wrong when it accused Republicans of engaging in “free markets-above-all ideology.” That just isn’t true. President Bush was calling for more oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in his first year as president, though he also praised efforts to expand minority home ownership at a time when bad credit risks were straining the system.

Let Limbaugh Moderate The Next Presidential Debate

I suggest we ask Rush Limbaugh to ‘moderate’ the next Presidential Debate. He does not have a book coming out on McCain. He has been a harsh critic of McCain at times. While he is a vocal conservative, he would add a good balance to the the line-up of Moderators we have this season. Compare him to Gwen Ifill.

Gwen Ifill is a partisan supporter of Barack Obama. As one writer described her, Ifill is so far in the Obama tank, she needs an oxygen line. She has book coming out that is nothing short of glowing in her admiration for the Senator. she has followed him on the campaign trail and written a piece for Essence that defines the term “Puff.”

What has been the reaction when people have questioned her ability to be impartial? RACISM she cries. She thinks I object to her because she is Black. How frighteningly silly.

I object because she is so obviously biased.

Let Rush Limbaugh moderate the next Presidential Debate. It will set the scales to fair and balanced.

Michelle Malkin’s article » A debate “moderator” in the tank for Obama comments:

Ifill and her publisher are banking on an Obama/Biden win to buoy her book sales. The moderator expected to treat both sides fairly has grandiosely declared this the “Age of Obama.” Can you imagine a right-leaning journalist writing a book about the “stunning” McCain campaign and its “bold” path to reform timed for release on Inauguration Day – and then expecting a slot as a moderator for the nation’s sole vice presidential debate?

Yeah, I just registered 6.4 on the Snicker Richter Scale, too.

Pelosi Allows Dems To Vote No

Why did 94 Democrats vote against the bailout? Take a look at Bill Dyer’s analysis:

I thought it was bad enough that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had made a deliberate decision not to make today’s vote on the Democrat’s economic stabilization bill a “party loyalty” vote in which the House Democratic leadership made absolutely clear that it expected loyal Democrats to vote in favor of the bill. Ignoring all of the immense power to persuade that inheres in the position of Speaker of the House, Speaker Pelosi wouldn’t even offer (or threaten to withhold) so much as a choice Capitol parking spot to make up the 12-vote margin between victory and defeat of H.R. 3997, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.

Speaking on John Gibson’s radio show later in the day, however, Karl Rove ran through, by name and often by committee or subcommittee chairmanship, the many, many Democratic members of the House whom Speaker Pelosi and the House Democratic leadership expressly authorized to vote against the economic stabilization bill. Glenn Reynolds boils this down to a succinct sentence which is almost exactly right: Pelosi gave key Democrats a pass on the bailout vote. The only quibble I have is that she didn’t just give key Democrats a pass. She gave them all a blanket pass, and then some members particular and specific encouragement to take it. It is inconceivable that she didn’t know exactly what the result would be.

The Dems Play Games with Votes.
