Due to a last minute shift, Houston and Galveston were spared a direct hit. While that is wonderful news for millions, it is tragic for thousands just east of Ike’s path that bore the brunt on the storm surge. Gratefully, the wind speed did not strengthen to a Category 4 as many had predicted. The shear size of the storm was monstrous though. Ike was, literally, the size of Texas. Oh one last point for now: Lord knows I think the chicken-hawk arguments are stupid. And I don’t think the fact that Obama never served in the military should count against him in and of itself. But how stupid is it for the Obama campaign to claim that McCain is unqualified to be president because he can’t grasp cyber-security issues based on the fact he has never sent an email when the McCain campaign can just as easily say Obama can’t understand first order national security issues because he’s never fired a rife, flown a plane, commanded men in battle, or faced an enemy? Susie Baron is a Republican, a mother of two and a home-schooler. She voted for Mike Huckabee in the Ohio primary, but now — because of Sarah Palin — she thinks she is part of something much bigger.
“I wouldn’t even call it a Palin movement, I’d call it a sleeping giant that has been awakened,” Baron, 56, said at a rally here Tuesday. This article in the Wall Street Journal is a must read. Sarah Palin’s explosion on the national political landscape has obviously rattled the Democratic Messiah. While sarcasm is understandable, even appreciated, it has turned to sawdust in Obama’s mouth. He is digging himself and his candidacy a deeper and deeper hole from which he is unlikely to crawl out.

President Bush has correctly said, we have to be right 100 percent of the time. However, the terrorists only have to be right one time.
