we all share a common black ancestor I'm as black as any of you or as female as any of you I am a human first and foremost and I want to marry my partner that happens to be of the same sex and it is wrong to leave that to popular vote just like if you left interracial marriage vote to the people in the 60's it wouldn't have passed. you can't give someone rights and then take them away and justify it

One would have to be a Christian to understand why Huntley Brown said he is a Christian first. I too am a Christian first, and a white man or caucasian secondly. To God it doesn't matter what race, or color we are. What does matter is our relationship to Him/God--have we accepted His gracious gift of salvation in exchange for our sinful life. Brown points out or alludes to the hierarchy that mankind has made. And he is making a statement that most people assume that all black people will vote or have voted for Obama. He logically outlined why he could not vote for THE MAN OBAMA. Some people however, do not get it. Perhaps many do not.

Just asking, why is someone Christian first, black second? Can't one be just Christian and black at the same time? Without the priority or hierarchy?

I am nor black or white. In fact I'm asian. Before I tell you my views, let me share to you why Obama had been a phonomenon for the asian community.

As the world knows, America is the most powerful country, both figuratively and literally. There maybe other countries with riches assests, economies, lower underemplyment rate and such, but if you ask any person on earth about the highest country on the planet, the answer maybe America (exception to the rule are Chinese, they have very strong national pride, trust me, they are just neighbors to the Philippines but they seem closer to the western folks than to us).

Anyway, the asian community have seen America rise and fall. Then here comes obama.

For us, he is a symbol, a cultural icon (the same thing to most americans)
>>he represents cultural equality
>>he represents youth aspirations
>>he represents hope
>>he represents the power of dreams

My opinion:
But the thing is, he is just a single person. And so, he have his own personal views and opinions just like all of us. The misconception is that he is looked as someone that should always do the right things and help america out of the recession. See, wright and wrong varies. It depends to a lot of reasonings. and if he believes those things, can we blame him if he doesn't believe what we believe?

He maybe the head of all, but he's still one. America have voted him to lead the country. The fact still remains that he will lead using what he believes is right. My point- the preseident of the United States of America is the same individual person just like all of us.

The comments I am most troubled by deal with abortion. Typically the attitude is that abortion is wrong but we cannot tell someone else what to do and therefore must keep it legal.

Why don't we do the same thing with theft? After all, they will answer to God. What about murder? rape? Who are we to tell someone else they cannot do that?

Every law we have is based on common morality and protection of those principles. It is a total cop-out, IMO, to take the attitude shown by many on abortion.

PS

I am going to leave the comments open on this thread even though the post is very old. Everyone is free to express their views as long as they are kind.

I only agree with about half of his article! I totally agree with the fact that people should not of voted simply because Obama was a black American but what his policies and voting record showed. I understand that he is a Christain first and that is how he identifies and I applaud him on that

My sentiments exactly... wonderful message. We need to get the stars out of our eyes so that we can see things clearly for what they are.

What breaks my heart here is that I don't believe this is Obama's stance on this issue... I take that back... I believe it's an Obama's stance.... just not Barack! I think Michelle Obama has been behind this issue the whole way, and how? She is a mother to two very beautiful girls? Why would she think this is okay?

Now that he's president though... we have to hope for the best, and just think good thoughts that things will turn out the way he promised they would!

I will honor & pray for President Obama because my bible teaches me to do that. However, I am afraid for my country. I'm afraid for the future of our children. A socialistic government is where we're headed with Obama. GOD HELP US!

p.s. if you go to Sir Yohan's ( the last blogger) it will explain where he's coming from....... it says it all by the photos that come up. geeslouise!

I want to start out by saying that I respect the author's and everyone's beliefs on this matter as we are all entitled. But every time I hear someone talk about what God would and would not back it makes me cringe especially comming from those that claim to be Christian. You are speaking for yourself not God, you follow God's path and strive to be as close to him as possible but that is it.

As far as this article is concerned, in my oppinion the author took one aspect of Obama's campaign and made it the basis for the man's moral fiber. As all of us live in glass houses, we should all put our stones down and deal things as they are.

As much as want to be that this government or any others for that matter follows God, I would be a fool to believe so and would be forgetting that paradise for God's people does not lie on Earth it lie with the maker. And when it comes down to it, it is our chioces that get us there.

There is a reason that there is a separation between church and state... In my oppinion, if you do something because there is a law in place instead of acting out of what you believe to be right and wrong, then you are not acting based on choice. For years, there have been people who choose to have abortions whether the law supported them or not. And they will continue to do so. Pro-life vs. pro-choice is not about whether it is okay to kill a fetus/baby because you have to answer to God for that. It is about whether a person has the right to tell you that you can't do it. I am pro-choice, but I do not think abortion is the way to go. I also know, that I have no more right to push my views on them than they on me.

A Christian knows to follow God's path, and to minister to those willing to lend their ear. But also not to judge or believe themselves better than anyone else. Don't believe me? Re-read the Prodical Son and ask yourself who was Jesus talking to? The sinners that he dined with or those who thought they were above them?

Obama's campaign and victory is more about a nation coming together to show that it can unite and work together. Obama didn't one point on race nor did he use it as a tool for victory. For the black community, his victory illustrates that we can truly achieve anything that we put our minds to. We can say it to our children AND FINALLY MEAN IT!!! All the excuses of being held back and having an inability to achieve when we know that we are not really putting our best foot forward is gone. It is about a country that was founded on justice and equality for all except the black men & women that built this nation on our backs finally being able to see that American Dream. Black or not, Christian or not, that IS worth voting for Barack.

This election is not about religious faith and unfortunately, none will ever be.
